Industrial Control and Communication
We have developed many industrial control systems. While all have specific requirements we have found Industrial communication systems are common.
We have developed systems based on RS485 using ModBus, Profibus and DMX protocols in addition to wireless GPRS and GPS enabled systems. If you you need to gather data, control or manage industrial systems we can integrate or design a robust communication system to meet your product requirements.
CAN Bus
The CAN bus has been around for quite some time, and over the years has proved very useful in our projects requiring robust low data rate communications.
In the automotive domain Canterbury Consulting has worked closely with CAN to integrate new and innovative products into existing OEM Architectures. This is essential, as the CAN bus and similar LIN bus are used extensively in this market. Although new higher speed MOST and IEEE1394 are becoming more common, the CAN bus remains the primary communication system integrating components from multiple suppliers into a single complex product.
In addition to working with CAN in it's home ground of automotive products, we have made use of this bus in our own system designs for marine engine control systems and consumer products.

Wireless Communications
Canterbury Consulting has designed an manufactured custom radio modules based on the Chipcon and TI
embedded radio devices. The scope of our design work on these projects has covered :
- Digital hardware design
- Antenna Impedance matching using both PCB and discrete Balun
- Antenna design and optomisation for operation in difficult RF environments
- Embedded software and protocol stack optomisation
In addition to 802.15.4 and Zigbee we have integrated WiFi, bluetooth and other proprietary wireless technologies to meet our customers requirements.

amBX is an exciting new technology bringing a fully immersive experience to gaming, audio and home cinema.
Canterbury Consulting has worked closely with amBX for many years investigating hardware platforms for the technology. We developed initial and subsequent reference designs to assist high volume manufacturers in delivering amBX enabled products.
SMPS Design
In order to provide the best efficiency and thermal performance good switch mode power supplies are critical to many of the products we design.
We have extensive experience in the design of custom SMPS units in the products we design. All our designs are fully compliant with Eurpean EMC ( CE) requirements. We have also produced products including custom SMPS units to meet FCC and UL requirements.
